Tip & Bill Split Calculator
Tip amount, grand total, and fair split per person for any bill.
Tips and splitting the bill
Guests often want a quick answer: how much to tip and what each person owes. This tool applies a tip percentage to the bill total you enter, then divides the grand total evenly by headcount.
It does not model tax-on-tip rules or itemised splits (who ordered what). For even splits after a shared meal, it is fast and transparent.
The formula
Tip amount = bill total × (tip % ÷ 100) Grand total = bill total + tip amount Per person = grand total ÷ number of people
Worked example
Example: Bill 86.00, tip 18%, four people. Tip is 15.48, grand total 101.48, each pays 25.37 if split evenly.
Common mistakes
Tipping on a post-tax total vs pre-tax subtotal — agree with your team and enter the amount you intend.
Forgetting to include a shared service charge already on the bill (do not double-tip unless intended).
Splitting among zero people — always at least one payer.
