Staff Shift Cost Planner
Weekly and monthly labour from roles, rates, and hours; labour % of revenue.
Labour cost from shifts
Weekly labour cost is the sum of each role’s hourly rate × hours per day × days per week. Multiplying by average weeks per month gives a rough monthly payroll for scheduling conversations.
Comparing monthly labour to revenue produces labour cost percentage — a common checkpoint alongside food cost. General guidance: labour % varies widely by service style; fast casual often differs from fine dining.
The formula
Weekly cost per role = hourly rate × hours/day × days/week Weekly labour = Σ weekly cost per role Monthly labour ≈ weekly labour × (52 ÷ 12) Labour % = (monthly labour ÷ monthly revenue) × 100
Worked example
Example: Two servers at 14/hour, 6 hours, 5 days → 420 each → 840/week. One cook at 18/hour, 8 hours, 5 days → 720/week. Weekly total 1,560; monthly ≈ 6,760. At 32,000 revenue, labour ≈ 21%.
